I did what I could on phone to request for a consumer law refund in the US. My best option I could negotiate was to take a 2.4/64GB/5600M/1TB MBP 16” based on the value I paid. I’ll be able to let you know how it goes for me. Can you test yuzu for me? i tried it but i got graphic issues. I use the offical driver from Apple/AMD.

I'd have to homebrew my Switch to dump games for Yuzu, whose hombrew guides are quite risky compared to 3DS. I only have Kirby Star Allies to test if I did.

The reasoning of the change and what proof did you need to deliver 1. I have AppleCare. 2. I had emails containing my repair numbers for the top case replacements and logic board replacements. They can search up to 6 repair numbers. At least 3-4 major repairs is typical to get a free replacement. And I negotiated for a free 5600M and memory upgrade. I argued why the GPU was going to benefit me for flight sims in Boot Camp. It does make it faster in most benchmark and heavier projects. We agreed that I would get the specs mentioned in my previous post. The senior adviser agreed, but administration sent 5500M in my confirmation email for the customer replacement unit. She’s clarifying to them we agreed for the 5600M instead of 5500M. However, my case is for customer replacement units after multiple major repairs. You may have to pay the difference for exchanging for a new model that comes out shortly after the one you bought.

Hey everyone I see that the problem happens via the temperature rising and causing thermal throttle, am I correct? My problem is that my pc's temperature do not rise, Mhz do not exceed 214s and it stays about 60 degrees Celsius when I'm trying to game. Any idea how yo fix this? I mean it used to go up to 79-80 C but after a few months, with windows updates and driver updates I can't even play really low system requiring games.

Hello guys, it has been a long time. After struggling quite to play any recent game, I decided to apply thermal pads to the VRM components. Results are mixed but promising. I tested the same game (Far Cry New Dawn, notorious for being CPU + GPU intensive), both before and after applying the thermal pads. Some preconditions, ambient temps where around 25 to 28, high humidity in a mix ventilated room, Mac on top of a Corsair MM300 mouse pad over a wood table. Without the mod, I was able to play around 5 minutes at 1200Mhz (GPU - 50W) and 2.5Ghz (CPU - 20W) at fixed 60FPS (1200p, high settings), resulting in a throttle to 300Mhz (CPU - less than 30W), 1.3Ghz (around 10W) at around 20 FPS. Temps stayed on the low 70s after throttle.
After applying the thermal pads Grizzly Minus Pad 8, I was able to play at 60FPS for around one hour with unlocked GPU and turboboost disabled on CPU. The machine still throttles to a lesser degree, but throttles nonetheless, CPU gets reduced the power to 12W and GPU stays around 40W. The game though, was still playable (if you call sub-60 FPS playable). 48 FPS gaming resulted in NO throttle whatsoever with locked framerate. Unlocked CPU quickens the throttling severely. I gotta say, the mod is way worth it and demonstrates that the issue resides in other components rather than the GPU & CPU or Power consumption. The backplate gets so hot that you can get severe burns, so I expect quite a lot of improvement if using an aluminium stand with a couple of fans (right now, the backplate is the new heat dissipator).
The mod is easy to perform (be careful when removing the backplate, don't pull, instead slide it), costs around 12€/$ and will take you around 1 hour being very cautious. I plan to add more pads to the CPU and GPU heatsinks to further use the backplate as dissipator, and change the thermal paste in a few months, I really think you can reduce temps a ton in this machine if you don't care about getting the backplate frying pan hot.
Right now the MacBook Pro 16'' becomes an incredible personal and productive machine and a little gaming companion. However, I gotta say that doing user mods just for gaming? Nah, this is not a good gaming machine. It will get you though current gen at 1200p at mid / high settings but that's all, next gen is around the corner and the RX5500 will get obsolete in no-time. If you are really looking for gaming on this, look elsewhere and wait a few months. Any gaming laptop that you buy right now is a waste of money. If you can buy a 16'' you can also get a sorta powerful desktop, go for that instead and wait for the RTX3000 line and a proper screen, 16 inch is just not enough to enjoy cyberpunk. (Personal opinion from someone that got the 16'' for profesional use)

I also added thermal padding to the VRM modules and saw similar results. I found it very difficult to get the back cover of the laptop reattached without messing up my thermal pads--I ended up removing a layer. I was using 2mm thick strips so maybe if I get 1mm for the last layer it would improve even further.

I returned my 5500M 4GB because it throttled insanely much. I've had the 5600M for about a week and it's also going back. The throttling isn't as severe but it's there and it drives me crazy that a laptop at this price point can't handle its internals. I'm getting a Dell XPS 17 instead... MacBooks are dead when it comes to Windows and bootcamp. The Dell xps 2020s throttles, just its not noticeable because there isn't caps but it lowers the speeds immedietely. Thats the price to pay for small and thin laptops. The 2060 model for the 17 even has vapor chamber which is better, but still throttles.

This problem has persisted since they changed to new design of MacBook Pro and I've tried many things and can't completely fix it, it seems that using a computer at low temperatures is the only solution.

I ve had the 5600M 16 MBP for 2 weeks, and at least in AC odyssey even in 19200x1200 after 10 min, the machine throttles down to about 27fps (from mid 50's)in busy scenes.....Quick CPU and MacsFanControl dont help either

Only the CPU throttles, but it's to be expected because it's a thin and light + Intel's turbo boost is way too aggressive. It never throttles enough to be an issue however (it can even keep 4GHz+ in some games and never below 3GHz). The GPU is amazing, 5600M levels of performance (2060) but it never throttles. Rock solid performance. 60FPS in games easily. The only issue I've had with my XPS 17 is coil whine; and Dell obviously has issues with their quality control but otherwise this machine smokes the 16" (performance-wise)... I don't even miss the speakers and trackpad because, while they're absolutely better on the MacBook, they're not *that* much better. Now that Apple is moving on to ARM as well they're probably going to be incredible machines for work and media consumption, but even worse for gaming due to no bootcamp. Anyway, I hope you find solutions that'll at least help you play games on the thing... Just don't get the 5600M for gaming, the price is insane and while it throttles less it's still unacceptable.
