Well gang, last week I discovered that I had made one of the most bone-headed mistakes in my 36 years of working on Macs. I left the plastic on the display for a while because I was nervous about messing up the new screen (I have sneezing fits). There was just one problem with this: the bottom edge of the plastic was wrapped around and partially blocking the air vents on the bottom! Suddenly, my games are all pegging at 60fps with a lot of the eye-candy turned on. I think that the driver I have installed is Adrenalin-2019-BootCamp-Nov-Edition-B-V2 but my notes aren't entirely clear. So far I've played Halo 1 & 2 (remastered versions) without a hitch. In the Call Of Duty franchise I've played Black Ops III, Infinite Warfare and Ghosts with all of the video quality settings on High, particle effects to Ultra where available. Post-processing somewhere out in the middle and miscellaneous lighting and water settings at maximum. I have the fan running full blast at 2700RPM. When I quit a COD game the GPU temp is in the mid-fifties. When I quit Halo 2 last night it was a whopping 47°C and dropped to 45°C in a few seconds. I had tried Sphinxy's hack to increase the maximum fan speed before the horrifying discovery and I can verify that it does work with some futzing around. I haven't tried it since I removed that d@mn plastic and so far I haven't needed it. All I need to do next is prevent Windows 10 1909 from updating itself to 2004...

I can't seem to get any of the Adrenalin drivers to install. keeps saying driver undetected. Running the standard drivers from AMD Bootcamp and my damn CoD keeps crashing. Maybe I need to uninstall the 2004 update?

Maybe I need to uninstall the 2004 update? I'd suspect the OS update but without more feedback on it I wouldn't want to make a call just yet. Which COD are you playing? I don't have the Modern Warfare reboot or the remastered version of Modern Warfare 2 yet so I can't try them out.

Warzone... I've downgraded to 1909 and got the exact same driver Nov-B-V2.. and everytime I load up the game, it will crash with a DEV 6068 error. I'm over it at this point. Can't be good to continously installing uninstalling

I just bought Doom Eternal and the reboot of Modern Warfare (both were on sale). I'll let you know what happens when I finish downloading them. It should only take a week.

I finally got around to playing Doom Eternal and the reboot of Modern Warfare with the video settings on high quality. 2560 x 1440 resolution. 60Hz Vsync. DE complained about the old 2019 driver but ran solidly without any issues. MW simply worked. I saw occasional drops to 48fps in MW but ever other game I've tested is steady at 60fps. And this is without setting the fan on full blast. In fact, I haven't heard it rev up! Thanks to the unexpected 50GB update they sprang on us other day, Modern Warfare now uses 213GB of drive space and prevented me from playing the game for another 24 hours. If you're running out of room see my post Fast and inexpensive external SSD for gaming. A 2TB drive that can sustain reads of over 840MB/s for well under $400.

I am on 2019 imac with Vega 48 and i can confirm that that Call of Duty Warzone works with the "2019 drivers" > "For iMac2019 & eGPU users" > "Adrenalin November Edition" None of the other drivers seemed to work for me, textures were a mess. Thank you BCD i will send some $$$

August edition works according to other vega48 others. Are we allowed to upgrade our Windows to version 2004 or should we still stick with 1909? It should work with both.

Mat, thanks. This new August update has been a lifesaver. Running games looking 100x better. Didn't even know my Vega 48 was capable of such performance.

Every time I try to play Modern Warfare there's another d@mn huge update to install. I finally had a chance to play it for an hour last night. Everything looks beautiful at fairly high quality settings. The lowest FPS was 52. I have the fan running full blast. Levels are loading insanely fast thanks to my USB-C RAID0 SSD: Fast and inexpensive external SSD for gamingInstalling the October driver is next and the Windows 10 2400 update can't be put off forever. Cross your fingers...

Update: I just discovered that Modern Warfare was set to "Full Screen Borderless". I'm not sure how I missed that one. IIRC, I had to reconfigure the entire game after one of those huge updates so that may be the culprit. I switched to "Full Screen" and there was a huge improvement in image quality immediately. I went through all of the graphic settings and tweaked things a bit more. The game now looks better than ever and I haven't seen a drop below 55FPS in several hours of play. There is artifacting in places, mainly foliage waving in the breeze. The textures and shadows/changes in light do weird things. I'm still using the same driver from last year. I haven't worked up the nerve to try something newer yet.

Latest update: I finally bit the bullet yesterday and installed the Mojave 2021-002 Security Update plus the supplement and Safari 14. And like many others I now have the weird sounding startup chime (the 2019 iMac my dad bought does the same thing). I haven't run across the fix for that yet. Later I tried to play Halo Reach and it crashed less than a minute into the game. The error message said something about Unreal Engine and a D3D disconnect. The Master Chief Collection is using the Unreal Engine? You got me. I rebooted and the same thing happened again only this time it was a very hard crash. The screen froze and loud electrical noises forced me to yank my headphones off. I haven't heard anything like that since the classic Macintosh days. After a few more restarts and and wasting an hour pouring over useless search results (same question, no definitive answers) I finally gave up. When I got up today I decided I had nothing to lose so I backed Bootcamp up with Winclone (I'm still using Windows 10 1909) and checked for any BC updates from Apple. There weren't any. I proceeded to install Adrenalin February 2021 Red Edition over the previous BCD dot com driver. Everything went perfectly, no DDU voodoo required. Afterwards the game was solid for the better part of an hour before I finally quit and booted back into Mojave to convey this joyous news to everyone. I was greeted by the annoying *BONG* I'm not sure what the SU could have changed that screwed Bootcamp up. There might have been a firmware update involved, who knows? At least it's working—for now. Next up: Modern Warfare. It stopped working months ago. Perhaps the hang after loading a level has now mysteriously vanished.
