Hi all. I’ve been having a torrid time with W10 2004 running on an external SSD, but long story short installed the April Adrenaline Red Gaming drivers only to have the two mirrored screen issue that some others have noticed.
I then tried to install the Blue enterprise edition drivers instead (w/o uninstalling the above - was this a fatal error) and during this process the screen went wild. It said it might flicker so didn’t concern me at first but then after a minute I thought something is badly wrong here so turned off the computer.
Now in Mac mode or windows the screen backlight flickers badly and I’m convinced that this has caused physical damage either to the display or the power supply to the display. Is this even possible?
I’ve a 27inch mid-2017 5k iMac and I’m really hoping this isn’t a costly repair scenario.
Any ideas?

Hi,
Is this this kind of backlight flickering ?
I was in clamshell mode, while gaming, then put the Mac on sleep mode and then when I reopened the laptop, I had the flickering. But this flickering isn't the problem cause it always disappeared when rebooting to Mac OS. The problem is that I had brightness blinking that I never experienced before and that was still here booting in Mac OS. (I have the MBP 16”)

I think that might be the same yeh. But mine does it regardless of reboots. And the fact it does it in Mac despite the issue being caused in windows makes me think it’s a hardware fault.
Did you manage to find a solution?

The issue never disappeared rebooting in Mac OS, the only way I found to permanently stop it was to change the refresh rate from 60hz to 59,94hz, boot in safe mode, or connect to an external screen.
I called Apple Support, they told me that if the issue disappeared in Safe Mode, that means it was not hardware related. He told me to do a clean install of Mac OS, which I did, and it fixed the problem. Maybe it will for you too.

So it continued in safe mode too.
However, having given the computer a break for most of the day, in the past few hours the flicker has gradually gone (from being still very significant from when I started it up this evening.)
What on earth could it have been?!
