Hello, I plan to buy the 16" macbook pro with 5500m 8gb and i7. I would be really glad if someone could check how well the Final Fantasy XV performs. It's one of the games I really want to play and my current laptop's GPU is too weak to run it. If you have that game, please check how well it performs at 1080p at medium/high settings and at native resolution at low settings. Thank you very much.

I can try out the demo that's on steam for you. But I would say that if your main focus is playing on the computer then I can't recommend a macbook pro 16 ". There are quite a few driver issues right now.

I can't recommend buying a macbook pro 16 "to play Final Fantasy VX right now. I tested the demo yesterday and there were huge problems with stability. I got between 20-60 FPS with everything on Low and it was in an area where there were not too many "battle effects" .
My graphics card clocked itself down to 100MHz. Usually must be significantly higher (800-1200MHz) .. Whether it is my settings that make the game not run as well or whether it is the game that generally teases I should not be able to say.
Within the next few days, I may try again with new graphic settings.

Thank you for trying it out. I must say I'm disappointed. I expected it to work just fine considering that I have seen people play Battlefield V on high settings on it. I wonder whether it's purely a driver problem or maybe the laptop is not capable of sustaining this game. While I consider buying the Macbook mostly for work, FFXV and in the future FF7 remaster are the games that I've been really wanting to play for a long time now. Ech, maybe I should just save up for a PS4 along the macbook.

As I said, I have a little trouble with my graphics card at the moment. I have plans to reinstall the driver within the next few days so I can try the game again.
But yes, a PS4 is probably a good and cheap solution too. Especially since a PS5 is coming soon and we can expect a price drop on on a used ps4.
