Hi, It's probably a long shot, but has anyone been able to use Oculus Quest with the 16-inch Macbook Pro via Oculus Link? I did see a video of someone playing Stormland smoothly with Oculus Rift, so it makes me think at least the GPU (550M) is VR-ready.

Thanks, will check that thread out! I also heard (for anyone interested) Oculus Rift S works rather well with the new Macbook Pro (bootcamp of course). I didn't expect Macs to ever be even remotely VR-ready, so that's a pleasant surprise

I have tried Oculus Link and was disappointed... It works, but is quite jittery. Then again, Oculus claims to support ZERO AMD cards at this point, so it could be entirely a software issue. However, I set up ALVR with SteamVR and using ReVive to run Oculus titles using ALVR and I am very happy with the performance with the laptop on Ethernet and the headset on a 5G access point, which is the standard recommended configuration. Smooth as butter even with pretty high bitrates set... If I drop the bitrate down to I think about 50Mbs latency was around 60-70ms.

I think the Link might improve when actual support for AMD card is introduced and the official cable is released. It's still all early beta so anything can happen.

I have tried Oculus Link with the Macbook 16 i9 5500 8 GB and 16 GB RAM. I'm using the latest red v2 driver and the latest beta for the oculus software.
So far everything runs perfect. I am able to play Asgard's Wrath with medium settings and I don't see any lag or stuttering.
This machine is really a beast.
Thanks a lot for the updated drivers.

Apple must seriously start marketing VR-ready Macs with new releases this year.

Can you tell me how to set this up and what cables you used? I'm trying to do the same thing on the 2019 16inch macbook pro

I just found a USB 3.1 data+charging able on Amazon. In retrospect, I wish I would have gotten a right-angle connector where it connects to the headset, but this does work:
I also could/should have looked for a pure USB-C to USB-C cable, but I use it with an adapter without any issues. Then it was just a simple matter of installing the Oculus software on the PC (do not have the Quest plugged in during install), along with Steam / SteamVR. But this part is not specific to the MacBook Pro, it is just the standard Windows stuff so you should have no problem finding guides on how to do it.

I have that same setup and for me the performance on Asgard's Wrath is not acceptable. Same thing for a few other games I tried such as The Walking Dead, Blade and Sorcery and a few others. Of course some play well, but more demanding games do not. I'm using the 2020 Blue Drivers, Mac Fan Control at Full Blast and Throttle stop limiting boost power. So my advice to those looking to play AAA VR games is to look for an Egpu, that's what I'm about to do despite all my desires to stick with just the MBP.

One other option, if these are Oculus Rift titles, not SteamVR, is to try to use the Oculus Debug Tool to lower the sampling rate. Yes, video quality suffers, but it takes care of a lot of jitters. I honestly don't know if doing that on SteamVR games has any effect, I didn't test it all very much.

I tried setting that to a value of 0.8 or so and that helps a little bit but the MBP still struggles on some scenarios. I still insist that we can't call this machine "VR ready".
