Hi mate. AMD are aware of the issue and are working on a fix. Nothing I can do at the moment as it is an issue with the driver firmware. Keep your eyes peeled over christmas for a potential fix being released.

hey there, didn't try to install your drivers, since you warned about error 43. However, I tried to modify installmanager.cfg and c0....inf from AMD original files as per your instructions here at apple support double- and triple checked. Didn't work either. Final message after installation is "16.50.2011 is not installed", while the rest of software seems to be installed. Any idea? bootcamp win10, iMac 5k, mid 2015, R9 M290. attaching log fyi. Would appreciate if you guide me further. any solution for that?

Well it's most probably because after you modifying the files the package is no longer signed. So you need to be in test mode for it to install.

it worked! however, two things:
1) display adapter properties say now it is AMD Radeon HD 7800 series, while Crimson says it is Asus R7 R265 series. Shouldn't it stay M290 series? 2) I cant adjust brightness level, neither automatically, nor manually.
Should I try to uninstall and start all over again from a scratch?

You can get brightness working again by searching for 'brightness' in the inf file and it will come under a [... DesktopSettings] bracket with a single line of code and a number after it. Change that number to 0 and rerun installer and that will restore brightness controls. An issue with the drivers is that if you fully specify your cards id for the installer you get error43 after install. However if you install manually via device manager you find that it can install another graphics cards driver instead that has the same architecture. Up to you if you want to reinstall.

Am I reading this properly, Have you been able to fudge the install so that windows can make use of your M290 ?? So this is a workaround for the Error 43 ? Is windows able to properly use your GPU for gaming now ? If so could you explain the steps you took to get it installed and which drivers from AMD you used as it would be much appreciated! I have a M390 and get error 43 from all of the drivers I have tried and have been going bald trying to work out a fix. Thanks

I am referring to the M290X and M290 in these cases. And if it works by mapping to the wrong card you are very lucky because for 90% of people its just error 43 no matter what. Same goes for M390.

Yes, I can play Battlefield 1 ever since I installed the driver. There was only one freeze within the game since. I also tested, though not thoroughly, other games installed, namely Quantum Break, Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Shadow Tactics - Blades of the Shogun. No issues or deterioration in performance so far, at least not that I could notice. 2. I followed Mat's instructions at this link discussions.apple.com/message/30930410#message30930410. The only addition that you have to install it in test mode, otherwise it wouldn't work

I had heard tell that the AMD Radeon HD 7800 series was the original marketing name of the AMD HD 290X - in other words, some of this insanity was caused by AMD marketing execs re-branding an entire product line.
I've been trying to get this going for over a year now and I always end up throwing my hands up after I get tired of messing with it. I'm currently playing with Windows 10 on my machine attempting to get Elite Dangerous Horizons working.
Thanks to this forum I've gotten farther than I ever have before - so thanks in advance for all of the information.
Weirdly, I THINK I just may have the 290X driver installed and working on my late 2014 iMac Corei7 with 290X graphics. How I did it is very strange: install as normal. Eventually get -43. Run the driver removal software in safe mode and remove the driver. Before rebooting, reinstall the 290X driver again and now I get:
AMD Radeon R9 M290X (Bootcamp XG Edition by bootcampdrivers.com) Device Type: Display Adapters Manufacturer: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. Location: PCI Slot 1 (PCI bus 1, device 0, function 0) Device status: this device is working properly (!)
However, I cannot be 100% certain that I've achieved accelerated video (I'm running the ED launcher which takes forever to build a profile based on your video card).
More later.

Update: it definitely is not actually running even though it is reporting it is. I've removed and reinstalled the driver and was able to achieve the same diagnostic message that everything is running but it doesn't actually run.
Just for kicks I ended up attempting to install the Radeon HD 7800 drivers just to see if it would work and it reverted to the bootcampdrivers.com driver and reported it was working but again, does not.
Very curious. I'll work on this more in the coming days.

I tried removing and reinstalling this again. It's very strange - I can reliably get it to where it says it is running but it actually isn't.
But it definitely isn't. External displays don't work and no accelerated video functions occur.
Tonight I tried the latest update: unusual error to say the least:
Strangely, with the 17.1.2 update I get error 175 "AMD cannot continue due to unsupported AMD graphics hardware."
This is on 5k iMac Corei7 4.0 ghz with 32 gigs of ram and AMD Radeon R9 290X graphics card (how I wish I could swap that card out!)
