Hey y'all!
Here's my specs:
2019 iMac - 21.5in version
OS: Big Sur 11.5.2
Onboard GPU: Radeon 555x 2gb
eGPU: Razer Core Chroma
eGPU Card: Radeon 6800
Windows 10 Iso: Win10_21H1_English_x64
Graphics Drivers: Spetember 2021 Blue, previously Feb 2021 Blue
So I originally got this computer as something to do freelance media work with, and wound up running it as Windows gaming machine too.
I picked up the eGPU and Card back in February, and spent an afternoon or so getting everything set up. I followed some guides on how to get everything set up, and it wasn't that difficult of a process.
When I wanted to use my eGPU I'd pop it on and let Windows connect everything, and then reboot. Nine times out of ten the computer would then boot to windows with the eGPU and there wouldn't be any issues.
Recently, I updated my Mac's OS to the newest version of Big Sur and started using the eGPU when I'm working on media projects. Now, Mac OS doesn't have any problems recognizing or using eGPU which has been great, however Windows 10 has been having a pretty challenging time getting it to run. I used to be running the November/December build of Big Sur, so I wouldn't rule out that something got changed and that change it what's giving me these issues when I run Windows.
These are the issues I'm running into:
-Widows either won't recognize the eGPU (Code 12) or it cannot boot windows when the eGPU is on.
-Windows won't be able use the onboard speakers.
The reason I suspect that the Big Sur update is the root of this issue is that I can resolve the speaker issue by booting into Mac OS and then booting into Windows. Every time I run into the speaker issue, booting into Mac OS and then Windows always resolves it. The other odd thing is that I can do a clean install of Windows and the Graphics Drivers, and the eGPU will work as intended. I can pop it on, Windows will recognize it, and it will function properly. Every time I've done a clean install of Windows and the drivers, the eGPU will always be recognized. However, if I boot into Mac OS and then boot into Windows the eGPU will not work, it's always a Code 12 or 43.
Now, I recognize that it would just be easier to buy a dedicated PC instead of the M.C. Escher rig I have now, however I'd rather see there's a long-term solution using the hardware I already have.
I'm pretty open to any ideas y'all might have.
Thanks!
