Hi, guys.
I've tired to explain how to get no throttling and no downclocking on macbooks with 5500m and 5600m videocards (i had mbp with 5500m and now i'm on 5600m).
So, here it is. And yes, now i'm playing Cyberpunk 2077 on high preset on 1200p without downscaling resolution im getting 40-60 FPS (50 in most of scenes).
So, imagine, that you've just installed Bootcamp and you don't now what to do.
Tools and things you need to download:
1. December Red drivers (it's the best at the moment) - mega.nz/file/JEhihBJQ#CZ3vv7KsHnY0Jg68DQdBvWbJB4z2Lfxv8SppMZ1syNo
2. GPU-Z - www.techpowerup.com/download/techpowerup-gpu-z/
3. MorePowerTool (only old versions, last ver doesn't support our videocards) - yadi.sk/d/uq18NtAoUuCCOw?w=1 (there are two versions, i don't rememver which of them is older)
4. ThrottleStop (I'm using it instead of QuickCPU, cause QCPU downclocking processor at 800mhz even you're disabling prochot don't know why) - www.techpowerup.com/download/techpowerup-throttlestop/
5. CRU tool - www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-Custom-Resolution-Utility-CRU
6. MSI afterburner (to watch all parameters in real-time) - download.msi.com/uti_exe/vga/MSIAfterburnerSetup.zip
P.S. You Also need to be on stock videodrivers - www.amd.com/ru/support/kb/release-notes/apple-boot-camp
Guide:
1. You're an stock drivers (if no, download from the link and do clean install using DDU), after that go to devicemanager, update drivers manually on December Red (first link), after that you're rebooting your macbook and installing Dec drivers using setup.exe from the folder;
2. Install and open GPU-Z and dump your bios of your videocard (using the button near by "BIOS VERSION");
3. Open MorePowerTool (!ONLY OLD VERSIONS!) and open your dumped bios file. If MPT cant detect your videocard, that means, the driver was not installed correctly (you need to reinstal the driver) or you're using new version of MPT.
4. If all is ok, checkboxes in MPT will be avaliable, check "GPU Clock limit", "Memory Clock limit" and "power limit" (that's enough), after it go to frequency tab. And now starting the most interesting part of the guide.
5. We need to modify minimal freqs to avoid throttling/downcklocking ("GFX minimum", "Soc minimum", and "DPMs"). The focus is in minimum boreder. Why? For, example, if i'll write in "GFX minimum" 1050mhz, it wolud be like MPT will say to videocard UNDER LOAD: "Honey, you can't get lower freqs than 1050, just can't". I hope, you understood me. So, we need to get minimum clocks so close to maximum limitations and after that (under load only, yes) videocard couldn't get at lower freqs.
Another insteresting thing is "what is the DPM?" That memory clocks divided by two (example, if DPM is on 600, that means, Mem freq will be at 1200mhz). And "Memory DPM 0" is minimal Mem freq devided by two.
Which parameters i've got on my 5600m? Here it is:
6. To apply your settings you need to click at "Write SPPT" button and reboot Bootcamp or open "restart64.exe" (This app will restart your videodriver) from CRU packet.
6a. If you've got black screen after restarting, it seems, your paramaters in MPT are too high (it's possible and it's okay), you just need to reboot with safe mode (using F8 on windows' startup) and write another parameters in MPT.
7. Now you need to restrict your processor's freqs (to decrease temps and power). Open "ThrottleStop" and get checkboxes "Disable Turbo" (disabling turboboost), "Set multiplier" and get 20-23 (that parameter set your CPU clocks) and UNCHECK "BD Prochot" (disabling some temp limitations). After that click "Save".
8. Install MSI afterburner to watch and monitor all your parrameters. Get ThrottleStop to run at bootcamp startup (use windows scheduler).
9. Now you can play and test your config.
Is it possible to BRICK you MacBook? Is that SAFE?
It's ALMOST impossible to kill your hardware by the method, cause there are lots of security limitations in Macbook. First of all, as i'd said, if you'll write some extra-high parameters, your videodriver will be disabled (black screen on startup) - reboot Bootcamp at safe mode and reset params.
Second. If you will reach 100 C temp, your macbook will go to sleep (no reboot, no shutdown, just sleep). What you should do? Set your freqs (CPU/GPU) at lower params.
P.S. It's better to get hardware with heatsticks (https://www.reddit.com/r/macbookpro/comments/gs6bal/2019_mbp_16_vrm_cooling_mod/) - you'll reach lower temps with that.
P.P.S. You also can change your thermal past to better one (or, as i've got at MBP with 5500m - liquid metal).
P.P.P.S. Some of the games and processes are need in CPU more, than in GPU (S.T.A.L.K.E.R. as example). So it's easy to set your CPU at 4.1Ghz (for example) via ThrottleStop.
P.P.P.P.S. Guys with 5300m, i'm so sorry, but your vcards doesn't supported by any version of MPT and this guide is not for you.
All you'll do - at YOUR OWN RISK.
