Hi, Here is the issue that I've had in Mac OS installing an other GPU card drivers : The latest drivers I installed were the Apple's 5600M (I have a 5500M but with a trick it worked). I had better performances in game, especially on Horizon Zero Dawn which requiers the latest AMD drivers. BUTAfter a few time playing with my Mac plugged in my TV, when I reopened my Mac, I had serious flickering on my screen and some kind of "brightness blinking". I already had flickering in windows (only on my mac's screen) but when I rebooted to Mac OS everything was fine. This time, when I rebooted to Mac OS, my screen was blinking. Here's a quick video I've taken : This brightness blinking only happened in 60Hz (if I choose 59,94Hz it disappeared), and if I was connected to an external screen (with retina display in 60hz) or If I booted in safe mode, the issue disappeared. I tried resetting SMC, VRAM etc, nothing fixed the issue.
I also noticed that a second 'LCD Color' Profile has been installed (can't tell if it was already there before) (didn't take a screen at the time, but their were 2 'LCD Color' profile) I had to do a clean install of Mac OS to get rid of this. I'm still wondering if this issue can be related to the drivers I used in Windows and also want to warn you guys as I've seen some of you use other GPU drivers, to be careful with what you're doing. Can't wait for Mat to be back with new drivers !

your GPU is overheating to the point where its causing damage. let your machine cool down before you boot back into macOS and you should be good.

your GPU is overheating to the point where its causing damage. let your machine cool down before you boot back into macOS and you should be good. When I had the issue, I’ve shut down my Mac for the night and the next day, I was still having the brightness blinking on Mac OS. You may have missed some info in my text, I had to do a clean install of Mac OS to fix the problem, also I found ways to make it disappear (put the screen in 59,94Hz, boot in safe mode and connecting my Mac to an external monitor) so that doesn’t sound like a hardware issue (for the blinking brightness). The flickering only happened on Windows (I agree that it may be because of too much heat for GPU), but what doesn’t make sense is that I had the issue after getting out of sleep mode in windows (I actually wasn’t playing when this happened, I was just taking my Mac out of sleep mode in Windows to boot into Mac OS) so my Mac wasn’t hot. And I never experienced this when playing at high temps. I already had the issue getting out of sleep mode in windows, but always rebooted safely in Mac OS, only this time I had brightness blinking in top of flickering and it was still here when I rebooted in Mac OS.

perhaps a configuration for the card has somehow resided after restart when going into macOS. But it shouldn't be the case certainly so that almost certainly is a bug in the 'hack' you found in the driver. Anyway as soon as I get chance i'll be issuing August edition drivers. Stay tuned.

It scared the shit out of me aha I thought I killed my GPU! Sounds awesome. Can’t wait 🙂 Do you think that all the GPU throttling issues on MBP could be fixed with you’re next release ?

hey when this happened were you using clamshell in bootcamp. Ive had this same issue. currently using January red drivers. yes I was in clamshell mode, while gaming, then put the Mac on sleep mode and then when I reopened the laptop, I had the flickering. But this flickering isn't the problem cause it always disappear when rebooting to Mac OS. Here the problem is that I had brightness blinking that I never experienced before and that was still here in Mac OS :

yes. mine does the same. and it goes away after awhile depending on how long I gamed. I've been trying to figure out this issue for awhile. there are a couple of other people online I've seen have the issue. some were using egpus. its been at random for me if using in clamshell. I've been using win+p to switch to external only and changing the settings to do nothing when I close the lid. when I do it this way I don't experience the flashing. well at least not yet. but whenever I boot straight from OS X to windows without opening the lid I get the flashes within 30mins to an hr

the issue starts In windows after gaming. even if I boot back to Mac OS the screen will still flash and blink like the example in your post. after awhile it goes away on its own. I have never seen this issue happen when just using Mac OS. only when using bootcamp and gaming with the lid closed.

So weird that it happened right now, I never had this issue before .. I will stop playing until someone find what the problem is. Don’t want to kill my Mac

Ok so here is a reddit topic with a YouTube video showing the same issue. A lot of people seem to experience the same thing in the comment section. https://www.reddit.com/r/mac/comments/i05z40/screen_flashing_after_using_in_clamshell_in/
