Hi there-
Thanks Mat for developing these drivers, I'm hoping someone can help me here. Here's my setup:
2019 MBP 16" i9 2.3 16GB AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8GB Installed Adrenaline Blue Enterprise April 2020 Edition (still best for MBP 2019?) MacsFanControl Fan 1 Based of GPU Proximity 2 starting 60C Max 65C, Fan 2 Based of GPU Proximity starting 60C Max 68C Also using Process Lasso to turn off Hyperthreading and Real-Time Priority ThrottleStop to turn off Turbo
I basically set this up so my kid could play Fortnite while I'm on PS4, I don't use Windows for any other gaming or apps. Fortnite seems to run ok at first with distance set to Epic, everything else Medium, Full Screen 2048x1280, 3d 100%, vsync off. Frame rate capped at 120 and seems to run there (or in the ballpark) for an hour or so, but then falls apart dropping down to like 24fps making the game fairly unplayable. Fans are on, but not at max, temps seem not too hot, adapter is plugged in.
I don't know anything about PC Gaming, but my understanding is that Fortnite isn't exactly that taxing, so what am I doing wrong? I don't need 120fps, 60ish would be fine, but is this unreasonable to expect?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.

It's a thermal issue, the GPU has no set clock and power gets massively dialled back when temps go beyond 80c.

I have exactly the same issue on CSGO. I got MacsFanControl & Throttlestop running.
I start with 190/200 fps and after 1 hour i get 60 / 40 fps.
Could someone help?

Leave Macs Fan Control on full blast. You need to keep your system cool in the first place. ThrottleStop may have worked before, but it doesn't do enough to stop the throttling. I no longer see significantly lower amounts of heat during the summer with Turbo Boost disabled. Even combined with cores disabled in msconfig, It only delays BD Prochot kicking in up to a certain point. I am lucky to see one hour without thermal throttling on 2018 15" MBP nowadays. Process Lasso is the most promising as it contains an option to disable hyperthreading. A Reddit user got a 140% FPS boost on a 16" MBP with his settings in this thread. https://www.reddit.com/r/macgaming/comments/gmpqj5/guide_double_your_fps_with_process_lasso/There is also the possibility to dump the BIOS using GPU-Z and then tweak the Radeon Pro 5500M using MorePowerTool.

Thanks for this, dumping the BIOS seems outside my paygrade, tbh. Been having sort of better luck using Process Lasso along with QuickCPU that I saw in another thread here, but still kinda disappointed that a 5 year old PS4 crushes a $2200 laptop from late 2019.

I've found that setting the max gpu clock freq to 1000mhz in MorePowerTools gives me decent performance and delays the heat buildup that leads to the downclocking.

I have the same problem. And I have afterburner OSD showing the CPU and GPU info. Neither go near 80c. My GPU is 72c and my CPU almost never cracks 70c in games. And of course the clocks are dipping to horrible lows. The GPU sits in the 400-500mhz range and the CPU around 1500mhz. This is stupid. I dont know what I was thinking honestly trying to game on a $3k macbook. I have an eGPU coming on Friday and I have a 2080 Super from my desktop Im going to try and use. If thats not dramatically, and I mean dramatically better, this is going back in favor of an MSI or Asus gaming laptop.
