The throttling on the GPU seems to be in an interval because seeing my graphs it has a very regular interval on the core clocks. Anyone know why?
Also the morepowertool doesn't seem to have any effect on the performance i have tried many settings, everytime getting the exact same interval throttling.

Around 1000/1100Mhz then 700/800Mhz and again and again...

Also the morepowertool doesn't seem to have any effect on the performance i have tried many settings, everytime getting the exact same interval throttling. From what I've seen, in MOST cases (not always, sometimes lower) , when the GPU or CPU hit temps above 80º the GPU and CPU will throttle. What I've done to manage it is: - Set your fans to full blast - Constantly monitor your stats on MSI afterburner - LIMIT YOUR GAME TO 60FPS with VSync. <- This is the most important , stressing your macbook's gpu to its full only overheats it since the fans at 100% aren't enought to cool the internals. - Limit the i7 cpu's wattage long power max to 10.7W (you have to play with this with your own cpu to check at which temp it doesn't get too hot). This I do via Intel XTU - Not using throttlestop's disable turbo (because this force my i7 to its 2.5ghz base clock) and that draws more than 12W on some games) also interferes with the above - Not gaming on super high res or with super high settings (again, its all about keeping playable 60fps without overheating the machine) To me , right now , is more about finding the sweet config spot per game where I can have 20+ mins of a session without the gpu throttling. I've achieved it with crysis 2 at 1080p and battlefront 2 at 900p. Also with the new April drivers ive found that the gpu is a bit more stable in its clock usage AND ive seen it recover (go back to normal clock speeds) after some time of throttling. So try it and it might help

Just wanted to chime in that while using January drivers (blue) on the 5500M 16 MacBook Pro w/ i9 I was using MorePowerTool tweaking per some screenshots on here and getting nice sustained 1050mhz core clocks MW Warzone and other things. Noticed upgrading to the latest April drivers (blue) I'm getting the same thing, working great so far. For giggles I dumped my BIOS with GPUZ again and loaded those settings and wrote settings in MorePowerTool. After a reboot I did some testing and now noticed getting 1250mhz core clocks with lowest drops to 1020mhz core clocks in MW Warzone, holding 50w when it can and staying in the 43w+ range at all times, overall performance is better and bursting like it should. I even dropped using Throttlestop and am not limiting my CPU watts either. Just food for thought, I wish I would have noted stock settings wrote to the GPU, strange that dumping BIOS again and then loading settings / writing would have such a positive effect. Possibly it's all fixes for the 5500m/xt series cards from Jan to April drivers considering how new these cards are still.

Just got done playing some MW Warzone. GPU-Z seeing 82C GPU Temp and 89-91C GPU Temp Hot Spot. Clocks stayed between 1048mhz and 1313mhz, seemed to hang out 1250mhz range and 1100mhz range pretty consistent. So dumping the BIOS, loading and writing the default settings from BIOS, rebooting and not using a single tool (throttle, morepower, etc.) I'm getting excellent performance on April 2020 Blue drivers. GPU watts rolls between 43w and 50-51w, even at 43-44w it's pulling 1130mhz or so average so not seeing any drastic 800mhz drops or anything like before. It's strange too that temps don't play any problems it'll go 82-84C GPU temp and 91C GPU Temp Hot Spot all day without throttling or anything. CPU is doing whatever it wants turbo as well. Only thing I run is Mac Fan Control to full blast fans. I'm satisfied. I can delete throttlestop, leave morepowertool out now as well. No more loading crap just set full blast fans and play (tested some VR Boneworks and Alyx performance is better as well now).

Awesome, I wish I could have the April drivers but I have the black screen issue when launching games ... By dumping the BIOS you mean loading the bios using more power tool with no modifications on the default settings ?

I would advise not to delete anything yet, as thermal throttling happens on different games. I never had RDR2 throttling and playing on the highest settings, but playing Witcher 3 made my computer throttle. Also, Warzone gets some pretty ridiculous updates, so I would not be surprised that they would f*ck up the optimal game performance (for macbook) at some point.

Yep just dumping it out of GPU-Z and just loading and writing the default settings from the BIOS. I assume those were the initial values but who knows, I've seen stranger with MacBooks been gaming on them since the old GT 650m 2012 model. Yep domizi still keeping those on standby I have my ini configs for each throttlestop and morepowertool just incase I need to put those back in place. I played Alyx for 45 minutes last night running better than ever, did some Boneworks and Beat Saber ran great. Clocks stayed 900+mhz even with lower GPU rollercoaster on some of those VR games. Pretty satisfied.

Has anyone with a 5300m been able to use MorePowerTool? It doesn't list my GPU in the dropdown box (yes I am running as admin). I have the latest Blue drivers installed after 3x DDU uninstall. Thanks.

Thanks. Have you saved your GPU bios (using GPUz) and loadet it up in More power tool? If no, tjeck this thread: bootcampdrivers.freeforums.net/thread/651/optimizing-macbook-pro-16-gaming

Yes I exported the BIOS from GPU-Z, but in MorePowerTool the Load button does nothing wen I click it.
Interesting as I was fiddling with this a BootCamp update came up. It of course mentions nothing about GPU power but now I am seeing much less throttling with temp and if I cool things down it recovers. Before at 80c it would go down to sub 500mhz and not recover without a reboot. Not it stayed at 1200mhz up until about 89c then slowly throttled down. As the temp recovers it then throttles back up.

Guys, ive found the solution (!all at your own risk!). You should dump a bios of you dgpu with GPU-Z, after it open with MorePowerTool and use custom setting for frequencies, voltage and power. I'll show you my settings for 5500m 4gb Could you please tell what version of drivers and MorePowerTool / RED BIOS EDITOR have you used? I am trying with "Adrenalin April 2020 Blue Enterprise edition" and "Red BIOS Editor 1.0.3", but it says not supported for my Pro 5300M bios that i dumped using GPU-Z.

I'm not very experienced with this stuff, but got my MBP 16 inch to run "Half Life Alyx" amazingly with the january blue drivers. Its been working great for the last month. Recently (I think 2 days ago) I had a little 'mac window' pop up saying it had an update for the bootcamp drivers (while running windows), I clicked cancel but it seems like it installed it anyway because today Oculus home and Steam VR showed a dip in performance like everyone else here, after a while of running the game. Then I downloaded and installed the new April blue drivers, followed the tutorial again like the last time, and now the games are running like absolute dogshit.
The temperatures stated in MFC don't go higher then 3600 and used to hang close to the 5616 max. So it seems like the GPU / CPU aren't doing what they used to.... I don't know much about this bios stuff so kinda left with an incredibly under-performing laptop rn. Explanation on how to fix this would be appreciated.

Will try to reinstall windows without updating bootcamp to see if it’s the source of the problem.
