First, thanks Mat for the awesome drivers. I'm on a 16in MacBook Pro with an I9 and 4gb 5500m and have experienced significant performance boosts after installing January Blue drivers. My problem is that I'm experiencing thermal throttling even after running Macs fan control on full blast. Has anyone else been able to successfully game for extended periods and not experience thermal throttling? The gpu doesn't exceed 80C but I experience FPS drops after an hour or so and I can see GPU usage drops in task manager. Has anyone had any good results with Throttlestop? MSI afterburner doesn't allow me to tweak settings, so any help would be appreciated. All I know is they optimized Mac OS X exactly to avoid this issue for laptops but when in Windows those optimizations aren't there anymore. I'm not familiar with any solutions though. MacBook Pro 2019 15-inch and 16-inch were undervolted and use good thermal paste. Undervolting doesn’t apply in Windows and the voltages are locked. 16-inch also uses integrated thermal pads for better cooling according to the iFixit teardown. MSI was tested on Mat’s iMac. It might not work the same on other Macs.

From startup, use Macs Fan Control at full blast before launching any games. Ambient temperatures matter a lot with laptops. Have them lower than 70 degrees Fahrenheit for maximum performance. Do not have any programs that take up more of CPU. It gets somewhat hotter when you’re screensharing on Discord or have some Chrome tabs open. If you are playing a game that is CPU-intensive, some CPU throttling may be inevitable at some point. Expect this if you’re going to play flight simulators such as IL-2 Sturmovik and DCS World. A good CPU is needed for realistic physics and game world simulation. However, with the right graphics settings, you should be able to run some flight sims at ultra quality while not throttling too much. Emulators don’t really need as much power limits as PC games. Just full blast the fans before starting up Citra or Yuzu. They don’t use too much of the GPU, and the single-core clock speed matters the most. Loading screens cause a turbo boost while using the GPU at the same time. If you can’t exit to the desktop from the game, expect the computer to be hot as soon as the level loads. Hi goldmaster11, how do you do that to control the Fan? How to full blast the fans? I don't find it. And Thanks again mat for the good job. + Good news : 20.1.3 version have the fix for DOA6 not working since Adrenaline 2020. So, in the near future I hope this game will work again.

Should be the same way as the Mac version. Make sure you are on version 1.5.4. The free version has two presets: Auto and Full blast. You will find these options on the app window’s menu bar. You can also make it sensor-based on a certain part’s temperature too.

That’s all understood, thanks again. It’s a tough call...I play mostly sims and the RX580 really struggles to pump out much more than 30-40FPS (if I’m very lucky) on modern games at 1440p. I also play an older game based on an old engine and any AA at all just kills the FPS, I’m talking 15-25. Without it it looks awful. The other alternative is sell my Mac and just buy a gaming PC. I’m not sure I’m ready to make that leap because MacOS eats Windows for breakfast. That said, I’m tempted to bite the bullet and get one. I figure if it’s no good I can always sell it again on eBay or something, given the core x is as rare as a running rocking horse in the UK there should be demand for it. Firstly, hey, don't panic if you don't find something in the UK. You can still order something from Europe and not pay taxes, correct? I live in Eastern Europe, Romania, Bucharest but ordered my Razer Core X from Amazon.de (Germany) and my Radeon VII from Amazon.fr (France). They arrive in even two days if you pay priority shipping, the price depends mostly on weight, so yes the Razer Core X price for regular shipping was about $50 but you DO NOT pay import taxes and can return the items if something is wrong or they don't arrive and you get full refunds, including the shipping you paid. The Amazon customer support is amazing.
You never stated what Mac you have, Windows is actually much more efficient at gaming using the same machine. Regarding older games, AMD just a released a feature for this with it's new drivers called Integer Scaling, you can look that up if you're interested.
Also I'm looking at the prices online of a 1080ti and everywhere I look it's more expensive than the Radeon VII. If you were referring to the card and not the Razer Core X in the previous post when you mentioned $240, be careful, it could be a Chinese knock-off.
The 1080ti is an amazing card but it is also 3 years old. Nvidia has had 3 years to refine it with driver updates and features but at some point it WILL stop supporting it with the newest features, even if not soon. Just something to keep in mind.
Hey, sorry for not replying yesterday. I can get the Razer in the US as I’m there fairly often so no worry, it works out at about £240 inc taxes. I was looking at buying the 1080 second hand in the UK. That is worth knowing about ordering from elsewhere in Europe though, I’d not thought of that. My current Mac is the 2017 27” 3.8ghz i5, RX580, 2TB Fusion & 16GB RAM. I’ve also got a 1TB external Samsung T5 SSD. It doesn’t need to be the highest end tech, just be able to power through the small number of games I play on a PC. That’s why I’d thought about a secondhand 1080 ti as a good balance between power / budget. ps I can’t find any reference in the new AMD software to integer scaling. I remember way back when it used to work in the old software, but for many months it’s been greyed out as ‘not supported’. As I said, I can’t find it as an option in the new software. I’d love to be able to use it!

Still no luck on my Mac Pro 2013 (D700)for the Adrenalin January 2020 edition (20.1.2) either. Blue screen with lines when the Radeon Setting pops up in the system tray. I've watched the how video (DDU x5 times) tried all edition red/blue. Never have problem till 2020 edition. Going back to the Adrenalin-2019-BootCamp-Nov-Edition-A works fine no issue with that version. Any help or info? Thanks for the hard work by the way. More than Apple/AMD would try. Did you select the uninstall/restart option in addition when you’ve run setup.exe? That worked for me. Yep have tried that too. When I get time I might try to experiment or just keep using the nov edition.

Just to be certain (because I’m not sure I was clear enough before) I did the 5x DDU AND selected the restart option during the installation as my second try at installing it. I’m sure you’ve done that anyway but just in case...

I have MBP 16 with a Razer Core X Chroma + Sapphire Nitro 5700 XT. Ever since I've updated to the new Jan 2020 drivers, Overwatch and Escape from Tarkov crash within 5 minutes every time. I've tried both Blue versions and both Red Versions of the drivers. Any idea of what's going on? It used to work on the November 2019 drivers but I can tell a difference in performance with the 2020 drivers. Any help would be appreciated!

its a widespread issue with Jan 2020 drivers and official PC drivers before 20.1.3 that should be fixed for the next version. It's already fixed in the official 20.1.3 AMD drivers now. I'm waiting for a february release before releasing new drivers for bootcamp.

thank you very much MacBook Pro 16 inch use blue better? i use Adrenalin-2020-BootCamp-Red-Edition , play lol game,Severe dropped frames,Can this version solve this problem? Blue version should be generally far more stable on Radeon Pro series GPU’s. Thank you very much for your help. The dropped frames are not so serious, but they still drop frames and affect the game experience. Is there any other setting to improve the stability。i am play lol

Is there any other setting to improve the stability。i am play lol Set Texture Filtering Quality to Performance. Enable Vsync in all games. Having a higher framerate than the display's refresh rate unnecessarily uses more of the GPU. Know your GPU's limits. Turn off game-specific settings that don't do much at improving the visuals. Disable Turbo Boost in ThrottleStop if the game doesn't rely on having a good CPU. Use 20-25W long turbo boost power max and disable turbo boost short power max on either Intel XTU or ThrottleStop. Have fans in Macs Fan Control set to full blast before starting.

Dear Matt, did you read my post about the January 2020 drivers not working on iMac Pro with Vega 56? Reverted back to December 2020 drivers which still work fine!

All the driver with "2020 Jan" cannot be installed to iMac Pro. Install will stuck at 96%. After restarting, display will go crazy and restart again automatically.
