A bug has been discovered with Crimson 17.4.1.
The registry for allowing brightness controls, KMDEnableBrightnessInterface2, no longer does anything on Crimson 17.4.1. As a result, brightness controls do not return after installation of the modified drivers. This is likely a bug which has been reported to AMD.
In the meantime, please refrain from upgrading from 17.3.2 or below. Older drivers can be downloaded from the main page and I can only recommend these for now until the problem is solved.
Thank you for your patience.

Thank you for your patience. First of all, you are awesome! I finally can game again on my Macbook. Any timetable when you think youve got this bug squashed? I dont really have a problem with it for now for a couple of days, but if you think it wil take more then a couple of days i wil revert to 17.3 Once again, thanks dude!

It's not the custom drivers' fault, it's most likely a bug on AMD's side (one of the preferences which used to toggle a different brightness adjustment method has no effect on the driver now).

Indeed. For now the only solution is to downgrade to a previous driver version. The Windows 10 creator's update is publicly being released tomorrow so it will be interesting to see if updating to that brings back brightness controls. I'm sure AMD will also be releasing another driver very soon to bring official support to the new version of Windows. Hopefully they will quash the bugs introduced with the newest driver too.

I cant seem to find the page where i can download 17.3.2 gaming... any help please?
Ive seem to have found a work around! Uninstall the generic PnP monitor driver, search for new hardware and reboot. Works for me, i dont know for how long, but at least brightness is at its fullest!

Nice. I was looking into that as a possible solution. I'll give it a go and see if it fixes anything for me too.

Update: Nope brightness controls still do not work for me. While the controls itself here doesn't work, the brightness itself is at it fullest compared to half brightness which makes a big difference. I had this problem before with windows 8 :/

I had this problem before with windows 8 :/ I'm trying to follow your steps (Uninstalling and searching for new hardware) and unfortunately also doesn't work for me. It keeps half brightness on a macbook pro mid 2015 with amd r370x. Thank you so much for your awesome work Mat HD. Your drivers are much better than apple's and pretty stable. Waiting for new release from amd with the issue solved (Now I'm playing mass effect andromeda and appart from crappy optimization it works buggy with crimson 17.3.2 or below). Best regards

Thanks Infernomp, I will keep an eye out for AMD updates and I will test them first to see if they fix brightness before releasing to everyone.

I just installed the creators update, which was a pain. I couldn't update because it would roll back @ 75%. So I reinstalled completely. I will try with 17.4.1 and report how it works...
Edit:
Darn it, you've pulled it from the website? Could you send me a link so I can try?

Allright, im going to try that first thing in the morning. Im off to bed. I don't know if you run it with windows but i remembered after reinstalling windows: Try checking in the power profiles of windows itself if adaptive dimming is on or off. You can try turning it on, apply and then turn it off again and apply. Its in the advanced profile settings. This was on when i installed 17.3.2 and it dimmed my display again! Even when it said it was at 100%!

*** AMD's just-released 17.4.2 fixes brightness control issues and works perfectly on my R9 M295X. Uploading the Xtreme Gaming edition for W10 shortly. Coming tomorrow for all other versions and OS's. ***
