Hi,
I'm writing this because I've recently seen a spike in GPU temperature, while gaming in Bootcamp on my iMac Pro (8c CPU, Vega Pro 64).
I always turn up the fans at max (2500rpm) with Macs Fan Control in macOS, and then boot into Windows/Bootcamp. Before playing Witcher 3 in 1440p (or games in 4K) would end up with GPU temps in high 80s, getting up into the low 90s where the framerate would be at 60fps or below (t.b.vsync+framelimit@59). Now during hot summer days the temperature within a few minutes goes up to 95C, and from then hovers between 90-100C in the most demanding areas. The GPU temperature maxes out at 101C. Dust shouldn't be a problem anyway, because I'm keeping my apartment fairly clean.
It would be great hearing from other iMac Pro users who game. We're not a big crowd, so hopefully others here can give some insights. Should I just play and enjoy, and stop looking at the temperature? Having the GPU run up to 100C can't be good for longevity?
Thanks.

Mike,
I don't have an iMac Pro; I have a Late 2015 iMac with AMD Radeon R9 M395X. From the very beginning, my GPU temperature has always climbed up to 100C when under heavy load (both in macOS and in Windows 10), without throttling.
Initially the temperature caused me concern as well, but so far I've noticed no adverse effects. These GPUs seem designed to run safely at 100C.
There are some differences between our situations, of course:
1. My GPU is different to yours, 2. I'm using different drivers, 3. I'm using the OS's automatic fan control (not Macs Fan Control), 4. I've not noticed a temperature spike with Windows 10 v1803 (but then my temps would always max out at 100C anyway).
Obviously I can't speak directly to your situation; I only mention my experience to suggest that apart from fan noise (which in your case you max out anyway), running that hot may not be a matter for concern.

Thanks Sean, I looked a bit into this, and it seems 100C in iMacs is normal and expected. I just played Witcher 3 for several hours, and the GPU stayed below 100C. The GPU core downclocked about 50-100mhz at 95-100C, but couldn't see any noticeable difference in framerate. Apple could easily have made the iMac Pro fans go faster than 2500rpm if they wanted to, so I'm just gonna trust Apple and enjoy the iMac Pro and stop worrying. Time to turn off the Afterburner OSD, and forget about the temperatures. Playing games on the iMac Pro is great, the colour quality of the monitor puts regular gaming monitors to shame, and it's really practical to have a powerful working machine + gaming rig in a single AIO package. Otherwise, I ramp up the fans to max to avoid unnecessary thermal throttling.
