It's more like Apple should update the boot camp driver.. I asked around the AMD software support forum and the answer I got was that Apple has the final say... It will take a long time (given the boot camp driver update history of Apple) I also think the OpenCL support from AMD is currently non-existent on Vega cards. I don't even think they released a stable driver yet, but they are currently hiring new people for the job to make it work. Also AMD office in silicon valley just moved to a new place, so I'm guessing more delays until we get any working driver for OpenCL.. Well it was working fine for me before this fix... Edit - My system got caught in an infinite boot loop when trying to access my windows partition. Mac OSX also started to show signs of degradation with graphical glitches.... I’ve deleted the partition and I’m going back to the original install without this “fix”. I’ll wait until people that know what they’re doing e.g Apple and AMD sort something out. You'll be waiting forever then. Also, if you're suggesting that this workaround is somehow messing with the graphics card in MacOS then I'm afraid that you cannot be further from the truth as the drivers in MacOS are separate to those in Windows Bootcamp.

Actually the constant restart loop messed with my OSX. When I started within OSX after the loop fiasco it had a message of constant restart issues and wanted me to send information to Apple. That is when the glitchy screen appeared. So OSX was also being effected from the constant restarts. Also I'm in no rush at all. I would rather have a stable system that plays games okay rather than a screwed up partition that plays games great for a day.

This workaround has been based purely on users in the Alpha forums experimenting. Right now the regular AMD PC drivers do not have proper support for the Vega 56 and 64 (applying the Apple software code or even just leaving the regular PC code) causes the Mac to go to a blackscreen and then force restarts are required to get back into safe mode to uninstall the driver.

Let´s be nice now!
When this will work well, I will donate 20 dollars.
We all must understand that this takes time!

Thanks for this update.
I have an iMac Pro Vega 64 and I am experiencing the following problems with this new driver:
1. Impossible to launch 3d Mark benchmark, the following error appears:
Oops an error occurred: File: dx_device.cpp Line: 213 Function: __cdecl eva::graphics::dx::dx_device::dx_device(class eva::globals &,struct eva::graphics::dx::dx_device_creation_parameters &) Expression: D3D12CreateDevice( adapter, parameters.minimum_feature_level, IID_PPV_ARGS(m_native.receive())): DirectX call failed [-2005270524]. :
According to some experts, this error implies no proper working DirectX 12 drivers.
2. In recent games like Starwars Battlefront 2, if I activate DirectX 12 option, black screen appears.
Did anyone experience the same problems? Is it normal that DirectX 12 is not functioning properly with this update?
Any help would be apreciated.
Thank you,
Alex

Have a look in the Alpha driver forum for another potential driver package you can use instead (its the enterprise version) and it might work better for your vega 64. Hopefully soon we can get a proper working driver without having to use workarounds.

Hi Mat
I'm running the pro vega 56. Installed the Radeon RX Vega driver which significantly improved gaming FPS (amazing) - thank you for your efforts. However, unfortunately after a few computer restarts windows wouldn't load and I was forced to do a system restore to the old drivers/setup.
Is there any way to fix this issue or do we have to wait until Apple/AMD releases driver support for the Pro Vega GPU's?
Unfortunately Apple said AMD needed to release driver support, it's not Apple's problem and refused to even contact AMD regarding this issue. AMD said Apple needed to release updated drivers (however I'm assuming AMD needs to develop them first) and said it wasn't their responsibility. Apple's position on this is disgraceful so I'm not confident we will receive any driver support given their failure to take any responsibility.
Thanks

I had several really fantastic game sessions and then windows wouldn’t boot and had to be restored to the stock bootcamp driver. I’d very much suggest doing the workaround at your own risk. I for one will sadly have to wait until there is a more stable option. Cant risk messing up a brand new $5k mac workstation to satisfy my PUBG addiction.

Has anyone tried to email AMD and Apple Support on the same email (including them both) about this issue? I feel like that might have better progress (or at least a chance of getting escalated at either end to the attention it deserves).
It's really a double eged sword with this update. Either I can't do any cryptomining (no OpenCL or DirectX12 support) and game okay, or crpytomine and have DirectX12 support but run ham stringed.

I think we're all playing the waiting game on AMD and hopefully they'll throw Mat HD a bone to play with. I'll be writing to Apple each month until we start seeing updates.

Either I can't do any cryptomining (no OpenCL or DirectX12 support) and game okay, or crpytomine and have DirectX12 support but run ham stringed. I haven't, but I suspect this issue is Apple's responsibility not AMD. The Pro Vega GPU's are customised for the iMac Pro and therefore the drivers are as well. I received this email from AMD "...The Mac products uses the customized hardware, the manufacturer (Apple) customizes its hardware and it drivers to support the specific features and functions of the computer." I showed this email to Apple and they denied it was correct (but it is). AMD is escalating this for me due to Apple's response and I asked if they could contact Apple. I'm still awaiting a response from AMD. Don't bother with Apple tech support - they don't know how the product works, their customer service is insulting and they refuse to take any responsibility. I think you'll have much more success if you post your experience on Apple's social media pages where they will try to avoid bad publicity. I won't repeat everything Apple support said to me, however they confirmed: "as long as bootcamp and the drivers say "installed" anything beyond that is not our responsibility. Even if you had a blue screen every time you logged into windows because the display driver was incompatible, it's not our responsibility". This is incorrect and untrue. - Apple is responsible for bootcamp and its installation. However bootcamp requires drivers to work. If a driver is incompatible out of the box rendering bootcamp useless, it IS their responsibility to fix. How can anyone say it's their responsibility to ensure software installs but whether it is usable is not their problem - it's an oxymoron. This constitutes a breach of consumer laws in some countries, however I'm sure most people don't want to engage in a legal battle over a driver issue. I asked the Apple support officer if he saw the gameplay footage I uploaded confirming the issue. He said the footage was only accessible by engineering and Apple support wasn't able to view it, despite Apple Support providing me with the file upload link and confirming they viewed the AMD email I uploaded as part of the video package. He told me if I uploaded the footage to youtube for Apple support to view "it would be a major security breach". He also said that they couldn't contact AMD as anything like that is Apple Corporate's responsibility. When I asked if they could refer this matter to Apple Corporate to contact AMD he said "no we aren't allowed to refer matters between departments". If anyone is stupid enough to believe the dribble from this guy's mouth I'd be surprised. I'm not bothering with Apple Support anymore based on this nonsense. You may want to leave a bug report as I hear it goes straight to Apple Engineering. The links are below but you need to create a developer account first: developer.apple.com/ bugreport.apple.com/web/Alternatively, walking into a store to raise this issue may help so they can't hide behind a screen. Ultimately Apple won't do anything unless iMac Pro users consistently pester them. I just think that posting on Apple social media may yield the best results as bad press is usually a serious concern for most companies. If you say you paid $5K to play games at 1FPS and Apple told you to go away because it wasn't their problem I suspect someone from Apple would contact you about it.

I would seriously suggest for you all to nag Craig Federighi with emails too as he is the overseer of Mac hardware. The more people complain to him the more he is likely to listen and start ordering people to do something about it. Also I think if anyone were to sue Apple over this then I could see it being a landslide victory for the users. I'm surprised there hasn't at least been a mass protest already.

I have a concept that may be a notion.
My bootcamp system hummed along perfectly for a week until installed Norton Antivirus. After that I would get all those issues about repairing after booting over to Mac. Not sure if there is anything there but I'm going back to the way it first worked without any issues.
