So Apple released a graphics driver update at the beginning of this month. Here are some answers to questions you may have.
Is it worth upgrading to if you are sticking with official drivers only? The answer of course is going to be 'yes'.
The drivers are now updated for all modern Macs (iMac 5k 2014+, 'New' Mac Pro 2013+, MBP 2015+) to version 17.6.
It should definitely improve support for Windows Anniversary, Creators and Fall edition for those who were still using the older official drivers, some were last released in 2014!
Many games will now work that previously wouldn't for those users e.g. DOOM, Battlefield One etc.
It should also provide better external monitor support for those who were once having issues under previous official drivers.
Is it worth installing over the BootcampDrivers unofficial drivers? Only if you are having issues with my drivers that you cannot seem to resolve by using a version other than the very latest.
This 'new' driver is still very outdated (it was released in June of this year) and games such as the new Wolfenstein, Assasins Creed Origins and Call of Duty WW2 will still fail to launch under these 'new' official drivers.
For these games to work you will still need to use my unofficial drivers (it's great that Apple support are even starting to suggest for people to use my drivers now!)
Do I need to install the bootcamp driver update before installing the BootcampDrivers.com unofficial drivers? No, it would be a waste of time. You can dismiss the update from the Apple Software Update application by selecting it, then going into the 'Tools' menu bar and selecting 'Ignore Selected Updates'.
Update 10/11/17:
AMD have similarly released a Bootcamp driver update available for download. It is also based on Crimson 17.6, though the actual driver version number has been modified to 17.10 so that the newest game releases will run. The Radeon Crimson software will still show 17.6 as the version number despite this. You also do not get the performance benefits of the more up-to-date drivers either.
"HKR,, ReleaseVersion,,"17.10.3101.1006-170720a-316479C"
"HKR,,RadeonSoftwareVersion,,"17.6"
Hope this clarifies things for some of you.
