I have a kinda ridiculous problem with this monitor setup, and it has persisted through endless hours of troubleshooting with both official drivers and your 17.7.2 XG ones.
When connected in Windows 10 (creators and anniversary), my UltraFine 5K will do 1 of 4 things:
-remain black and not power on
-power on with a max configurable resolution of 1280 x 768. Entirely unusable.
-power on with a max configurable resolution of 4096 x 2304 and render everything horribly, all UI items (including wallpaper and apps) appear to be running in very low resolution, even though the scale is correct (scaling set to 100%). Text is illegible.
-power on with a max configurable resolution of 4096 x 2304 and render everything perfectly, with no issues whatsoever other than the USB ports occasionally not working, which affects every scenario and seems unrelated.
The fourth instance (where it works properly), happens randomly after 20-30 reconnections of the monitor and/or restarts of the MacBook. This has persisted through multiple reinstallations of Windows, and the firmware for he monitor has been updated in macOS (it also functions perfectly in macOS).
All of these scenarios show the link failure error, and I’ve tried with two different certified thunderbolt cables to no avail (as well as every thunderbolt port).
To make matters more complicated, one time today I was running Crysis 2 and the game (as well as the AMD drivers) seemed to crash. After that, the monitor worked perfectly, even after numerous reconnections. Of note, an AMD error message came up that said it “reverted” to something, I really don’t remember what it said, but it contained a capital “W” in front of what I remember to be a few other capital letters. The error went away quickly, and that’s all I remember.
Has anyone experienced this problem? Is there any way to go about fixing it?
Thanks to everyone in advance! The drivers have been awesome in Overwatch and PUBG
