Hello, I am running AMD 5700xt Nitro Sapphire Plus Egpu out of a Sonnet 550 breakaway box with my 2019 16" MBP (5500m). I have had terrible performance in Apex Legends on my 5700xt with every Red driver released since January 2021, stuttering, terrible frames of <40fps. Every time I change drivers I use DDU in safe mode, and then run install from the Setup file. I also tried updating from standard apple bootcamp drivers using device manager. I am running Windows 10 21h1.
I always revert to the October 2020 red driver which consistently allows 100fps+ often getting all the way to 144fps and generally smooth gameplay. Unfortunately, despite the great performance, my system has started crashing once or twice a day, and I believe it may be because of this old driver. I once again tried the newest Red driver just now and it is the same terrible performance, and I am wondering if perhaps I am doing something wrong because my understanding is the newest drivers should work with the Egpu as well as the 5500m.
Thank you for any insight.

it could be related to the differences in the internal GPU vs the eGPU and the way the driver tries to install both drivers.

That may be worth trying. Alternatively downloading the official AMD drivers and installing those for your eGPU.

Still having no success using more recent Bootcamp drivers with the 5700xt eGPU. I have tried pretty much every combination. Installed apples official bootcamp drivers and then used device manager to update only the 5700xt and not the 5500m. Many DDU fresh installs. No matter what I do I get terrible performance from every Bootcamp driver 2021 and forward in Apex Legends. I have also tried the normal AMD drivers for 5700xt which refuse to install at all using setup (doesn't even recognize the hardware), as well as Apple's most recent official bootcamp drivers, which do not work with the eGPU.
The Oct 2020 drivers still perform wonderfully, even wattman works great for undervolting/overclocking Vram, but unfortunately if my computer is connected to the internet when I start up or return from sleep, Windows pushes an update for the 5700xt and installs their own Microsoft Hardware Compatability driver which also has terrible performance. This driver update gets pushed despite having Device Installation settings set to not update. It also doesn't even show up in windows update after it's done.
I am a bit surprised I haven't found others reporting these issues for the 5700xt eGPU, as it was a popular choice in combination with the last gen of intel MBPs, although there is a good chance everyone with my setup just gave up out of extreme frustration and already upgraded systems. I am not in a position to do that atm, so If anyone out there reads this and has any ideas I would be beyond grateful.
