Hi there,
Just wanted to share my results of overclocking the Radeon Pro 560 GPU in my MBP 2017.
The CPU is an Intel Core i7-7920HQ.
I noticed that the GPU wasn't running extremely hot when on stock speeds so i wanted to atleast try it out.
I'm running on the custom drivers, Adrenalin 2019 19.9.2
Did benchmarks with Heaven with following settings:
DirectX 11
Medium
Disabled
Disabled
Disabled
X2
Fullscreen
2560x1440
I benchmarked with heaven for a couple of hours and i have it running completely stable at 1053 Mhz Core Clock, stock Memory Clock and +50 Core Voltage using MSI Afterburner.
It is possible to even crank up the Core Clock further to something like 1103Mhz with +85 Core Voltage, it doesn't crash but it isn't stable and the card is going to downclock itself very often, this also gave me a lower score in heaven than the 1053 Mhz Core Clock.
You can overlock the Memory Clock to its maximum but i didn't notice any performance improvement so i decided to keep this at stock speeds.
The Heaven score when using stock speeds was 547 and after overclocking to 1053 Mhz i got 586. Wasnt a crazy improvement but i was proud of it!
Running at 1103Mhz i got a score of 568 since this wasn't stable at all.
Then i decided to check how it performed in gaming. When playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare i got a 10fps improvement on the places where it performed the worst. I don't know why but the card really doesn't like the lobby where it would normally get to 39/40 fps, now it is running at 50fps. But while actually playing we have a totally different story. Again at the places where the card has it really difficult we have an improvement of 10+ fps, but at places where it already was able to run fine it now gets very high speeds. For example being in a building it sometimes goes up to 120fps which is crazy.
And keep in mind that if a place would normally run at 45fps it does it now atleast at 60, which for me is very noticable.
The temps are still acceptable, playing call of duty at stock speeds would normally heat the card up to 74C. With overclocked speeds i get a maximum temperature of 83C, which for me is exactly where i still feel comfortable playing at (85 is the max for me).
When gaming i always have my fans running at maximum speed using Mac Fan Control.
Of course if somebody finds better results i would like to know, but i wanted to help you guys out a bit.
