Drivers work good overall. Games which are properly optimized and are not very demanding work very well (LoL for example). Battlefront 2 works well both on 1440p and 1080p too, if no other program is enabled at the time. If I watch a Youtube video while playing Battlefront, the game begins to stutter. It stutters a lot when at 1440p and barely noticeably when on 1080p. I'm using borderless fullscreen mode. I'd like to know if this is caused by lack of horsepower. Is the computer incapable of displaying both the game and the video, or is it caused by something else? I use iMac 5K 2017 - i5-7500, Radeon Pro 570, 8GB RAM, 1TB Fusion Drive, Windows 10 Spring Update. Driver version: 18.3.4. Battlefront 2 is running on low graphics settings.

Mat taught me this a while back, go into AMD settings and enable VSYNC, along with the fps cap of 60. Then enable VSYNC in game as well, and your game should run smooth as butter. Worked for me with GTA 5, still using the same method

Mat taught me this a while back, go into AMD settings and enable VSYNC, along with the fps cap of 60. Then enable VSYNC in game as well, and your game should run smooth as butter. Worked for me with GTA 5, still using the same method I didn't expect that, but the game seems to run much smoother now. To be honest, it has never been better, even playing 1080p on 120fps wasn't as smooth. I must say I am surprised. Now I watch a video while playing the game and no stuttering occurs. I think the problem was that the computer used too much processing power for generating additional, non synchronized frames, which didn't make a difference in gameplay. When I wanted the iMac to decode a video at the same time, it simply didn't have enough resources which resulted in stuttering. For a moment I thought that my iMac simply lacks power to give me a satisfying experience, but these machines never stop to impress me. It seems that it's all about optimization, settings and drivers. Thank you for your quick response. This site does amazing work delivering drivers and helping users with them.

If you play gpu-heavy games on the Mac, you will see a lot of stuttering occuring despite the high fps. However this isn't stuttering, it is actually a great example of EXTREME screen tearing. This happens a lot with Macs more often compared to Windows laptops, but this solution helped me a ton back in the day as well. Happy gaming

Worked for me with GTA 5, still using the same method I confirm on the vsync: In the newer AMD tool, it is termed "Vertical Refresh". Seems to fix everything in Battlefront II!

YES! It helps with games like GTA 5 as well, with the help of some fps boost config files, you can even play GTA 5 Online without ANY stuttering on my machine. Also, try using RadeonMod and RadeonPro. They are two very useful Radeon GPU tweaking software and if you need some assistance with them feel free to email me or reply on this thread!

Updated on August 20th to the driver "Last updated: 21/08/2018. Driver Packaging Version: 18.30.01.01-180802a-331834E", and running Mac Pro 2013 w/ d700 graphics cards from 2015 , 32 gb ram , Windows 10 all-up-to-date, bootcamp .
Star Wars Battlefront II seems to work well at 2560x1440 @ 24 Hz refresh with HDR on and with the "Wait for vertical refresh" option turned on in the General section of the AMD FirePro settings and the vsync turned on in the game itself.
The old VSYNC and the less-old "Vertical Refresh" option are not available anymore it seems; I clicked on the "Advanced" tab and a pointer spinner comes up for a brief moment, but no "Advanced" content is shown. That seems like a bug.
This set up can *almost* do the full 4K resolution, but gameplay is just too laggy. It is too bad since it is almost there.
Also, the AMD FirePro Settings program initially came up with the tabs off-screen. I had to resize the window to get it to show the tabs. That would be good to fix.

jamieckorea - I would like to take you up on your generous offer to help, to try to get my Mac Pro to do 4k smoothly like at 24fps. Thanks and if you can help, please let me know what times would be good for you to work on it.

I don't understand quite well what you are talking about. Are you asking me for help to get your Mac Pro to run more smoothly at 4K? If so, I can at any time probably, when I'm awake I mean. I'm a student and I live in South Korea so I am usually available anytime after about 4 PM South Korean time.

Also I am not a professional or anything, just a geek who loves to tweak shit. I also make quite a lot of mistakes as well, and if you still trust me and are willing to take the risk I can help you anytime

Also cap the framerate (try MSI Afterburner) at 59, ie. one fps below the refresh rate, which reduces triple buffered vsync lag. So I've read anyway, been using it ever since. Tested 59 vs 60 fps several years ago, and it seemed to have an effect.
Btw., you SHOULD cap the framerate, because you don't need anymore than 60fps anyways. This way, the computer will work less hard when the framerate otherwise stays over 60. This means less fan noise, and less heat. Also, if you don't cap the framerate, sometimes the framerate will go very high in intros and menus in some games, which create coil whine.

Thanks much jamieckorea and mike ! Yes I am asking for help to get my Mac Pro to do 4k more smoothly - but right now, it is not smooth at all at 4k; it's totally unplayable at 4k. At 2460x1440, it is very good in terms of responsiveness, with a rare graphical artifact.
And, understood and no expectation on my part; myself, I am just a working guy and don't have a ton of time, so I will try to get back to iterate on the 4k challenge as much as possible, but there may be some gap days in between when I am smushed by work.
I do have a set-up using Macrium Reflect backup that I have used a lot in prior years to restore when something didn't go well with a graphics driver. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Regarding framerate, I left it at 24 fps (where it is for 2560), but 4k was still unplayable.
I am familiar with MSI Afterburner and so I can do whatever tweaks we want on that.
