Hi all, I'm not sure about this one, so thought I'd ask! I don't seem to have an option to choose the colour depth of my iMac Pro display. I have the option for my external monitor, but that's it. I'm guessing iMac Pro screen is 10-bit dithering (basically fake 10-bit?). Has anyone managed to get a HDR picture out of the iMac Pro at all or is it not possible?
Thanks Spike

10 bit dithering is enabled by default. The only options available are via windows display settings. The screens don't "officially" have HDR capability but that doesn't mean some apps can enable it.

I'm also interested in knowing of freesync works? Thinking of buying a 21:9 freesync monitor.

Should do with external monitors that support it yes.

Thanks Mat, Sorry for the long time between response and reply. I've just bought an external monitor with HDR and freesync and was wondering if a USB-C to Displayport cable would leverage the HDR and Freesync data from the gpu of the iMac Pro or would I need a direct USB-C to USB-C monitor??

For reference, I have a 240hz monitor that works at 240hz in both MacOS and Windows using the "Moshi USB-C to DisplayPort Cable" Apple sells, but since the cable is too short, I'm now connecting via the Displayport output of a Thunderbolt 3 docking station, which also works great. But, using an *older* HDMI dongle, I only get 60hz or 144hz (I don't remember exactly, but it wasn't 240hz).

Well I have purchased a USB-C to HDMI 4k60Hz HDR cable. Hopefully that will work! Edit - Nope it's actually worse with the HDMI 2.0 cable... no 10 bit 444 and no freesync... it seems that there isn't any way to get HDR out of imac pro save using an eGPU! Pretty damn poor IMO.

Oddly now HDR is available for me on an external monitor when it wasn't before!

What did you do ? I have the same problem as you, my TV definitely supports HDR on my PS4, and says so, but IMac pro = nope.
What did you do ? I have a 4K60Hz cable
